I bought two large #1 quality pelts to make mittens. One of the pelts is really nice: evenly split and thick, fluffy fur. The other pelt is noticeably meh. The fur isn’t as thick over all and pretty sparse on the sides. The biggest difference is a significant part of this pelt was cut away from the back/shoulder area. This is a little disappointing considering a pair of mittens shouldn’t be noticeably different. I didn’t expect both pelts to be identical, but I thought I would have a bit more consistency between the two, especially in regards to the size of the usable portion of the pelts. I’m either going to have to alter my pattern or cut and sew strips of the fur together for one of the mittens, which is a little annoying.
I’ve bought quite a few fox pelts and seal skins from Bill Worb before and never had a problem with the quality. This one choppy skunk is an exception. I’d still recommend them, but you should be prepared to make alterations.
